The Importance of Wellness and Maintenance Care

Chiropractic wellness and maintenance care helps keep the spine and nervous system healthy allowing for the rest of the body to be fully functioning.

Can you start by explaining what chiropractic wellness care and maintenance care is?

Dr. Ben Rauch: Chiropractic maintenance and wellness is a form of chiropractic care where the focus of the care is keeping your spine subluxation-free. And what I mean by that is there’s no misalignment in the spine causing pressure on your nervous system. And the reason that it is so important is you’re getting the best function out of your nervous system.

Everybody has different stress levels in their lives. So, everybody’s maintenance care might be a little bit different, but the concept is always the same. It’s what is the least amount of adjustments or care that you need to keep your spine and your nervous system functioning at their absolute best.

Could maintenance care be considered preventative care for a person with a healthy spine who just wants to maintain their overall health?

Dr. Ben Rauch: Absolutely. Maintenance care can be preventative to keeping overall health. Just like with your teeth, someone who has healthy teeth can be preventative by brushing and flossing daily. Someone who has a healthy spine and a good functioning nervous system can continue to keep their spine and nervous system functioning at their best with maintenance care or wellness care.

How does maintenance care improve the immune system and make people healthier?

Dr. Ben Rauch: They actually did research at the New York Preventative Medicine Institute, and they wanted to see the effect of chiropractic adjustments on the immune system. And what they found was that the chiropractic adjustment in patients who had been seeing chiropractors regularly, so for five plus years actually, had a 200% greater immune system competence than those not under care. So when you are under that regular maintenance style of care, you actually get a boost in your immune system function.

Can regular maintenance care help people improve their posture?

Dr. Ben Rauch: There are many things that affect our posture. Chiropractic care is one thing that can positively affect someone’s posture. Adjusting the spine and keeping it subluxation-free allows for better structure of the spine, and you can then keep a better posture more easily. So, a spine that’s moving a little better is easier to keep in that better posture.

What other health benefits does wellness and maintenance care provide?

Dr. Ben Rauch: There are limitless benefits to chiropractic care. Chiropractic focuses again on that correction of the vertebral subluxations and the function of the nervous system. And the nervous system’s goal and its objective is to control and coordinate every other system in the body. So, by allowing that system to function at its best, you’re able to get the best function out of the rest of the systems of the body.
